Baseball rookie cards? What to see when you shop for them?

Posted on 30 December 2009 by Sebatek

A card collector would love to own a few baseball rookie cards for sure; they could either be autographed, numbered in order or just the plain ones; it really doesn’t matter.

These baseball rookie cards are generally issued to the player just before he begins with his first Big League and are regarded very precious souvenirs by a baseball sport cards collector, because these graded baseball cards are given to particular player before he goes on to become a superstar in the sport.

It is for the same reason a single player can have many rookie cards if you consider the previous years. And these need not necessarily mean that the card belongs to one particular season.

A genuine rookie card thus should be numbered and belong to the base set of cards. The most important factor to consider while shopping for the baseball rookie cards is to check for the condition of the cards, as the poor/good condition of the card determines its value.

The second consideration would be scarcity of the cards which actually indicates the demand for that particular rookie card/s; more demand more will be the value of the same.

But did you know that graded baseball cards often fetch you appreciated value and are so considered as investment tools?

Get your hands on the graded baseball cards while shopping baseball sports cards, which can be a solid asset. So, go………keep them collecting.

Ted Ginn Vs Chris Johnson: The Race That Never Was

Posted on 16 December 2009 by Brant Houghton

Ted Ginn. AFC Special Teams Player Of The Week back in the month of November. Part of the reason Ginn received this award was his blazing speed.

Chris Johnson. Self-proclaimed fastest man in the NFL. He made the Pro-Bowl last year in part because he is so fast.

You look at these two names, and wonder how they are even in the same conversation. Johnson is brash and cocky, while Ginn is more soft-spoken, and quiet. Johnson embraces the attention, Ginn shys away from it.

So again, we pose the question. How in the world are these two players linked besides their teams playing each other this week?

It seems that Ginn and Johnson were both at a pool party in the offseason. In fact, this party was one of those VIP parties that we all wish we would be a part of.

Chad OchoCinco was there. Joey Porter, and Vince Young were there. Can you imagine who else was present at this party?

Johnson and Ginn were about to be the main event at this party too, you know, provide some entertainment.

We all know Johnson and Ginn are both blazing fast. So have any of you ever thought of who would win in a race? Well neither Ginn nor Johnson thought of this first, but in fact some of Ginn’s teammates thought that Ginn would be the faster of the two.

We discussed Johnson’s cockiness above, so who is he to turn down a challenge. The race was set in stone. Johnson’s 4.24 40 yard dash time, and Ginn’s 4.37 time coming off of a ankle injury.

“It was real,” Johnson said Wednesday during a conference call with South Florida reporters. “We were at a pool party and [Ginn] was talking. I said, ‘Let’s go.’ We were going to race down Ocean Drive there in Miami.”

So if the race was just about ready to happen what came up to prevent it?

“[Ginn] never showed up,” Johnson said.

That is the Ted Ginn we all know and love, afraid of confrontation. I’m not saying he is a coward, you have to be somewhat tough to even practice with the NFL players. The bottomline is that this is what needs to change about Ginn. Someone or something needs to light a fire under this kid to give him some sort of excitement to want to carry himself with a sort of swagger.

Look at all of the playmakers in the league. They all have some type of confidence about them that makes them the player that they truly are.

DeSean Jackson is the player he is because of his speed and mostly because of his cockiness. That is something that Ginn lacks, and even though he has the speed, lienbacker Channing Crowder once said on his radio show that Ginn is afraid of contact.

So how can we the fans expect Ginn to go over the middle and make a key catch in the game?

Sure, he can make a catch near the sidelines, heck, we all know Ginn knows how to work a sideline better than anyone else in the league, but the fans want Ginn to show us something, and show us the courage to make a clutch catch over the middle. We all know the potential that Ginn has, but the bottomline is that he does not have the mental toughness nor the confidence to go over the middle, and go for the ball.

Ginn has the talent, he just needs to get some confidence in himself as a football player.

“The best man may win,” Ginn said. ” That’s all up to the man upstairs. I know he’s pretty fast. And just as well I’m fast. And it’s just [up to] us to go out and run one day. But until that day happens, I don’t think this week is the week to g into details about it.”

So it sounds to me like Ginn does have some confidence in himself somewhere, but it just does not transfer over to football.

Ginn mentions that this week is not the time for a race. Well what if Ginn would win. That would be the type of swagger that Ginn needs to finally light the fire under his feet again. We all saw what good ol’ Teddy can do when he gets that confidence in him. After all, it only took one kickoff return for a touchdown for Ginn to inspire himself for the rest of the game.

Now if only we could get Ginn to think like this all of the time!

So how about that race Chris?

NFL News and Notes

Posted on 12 December 2009 by Stephen Rhodes

Lots of NFL tidbits to be had on this Saturday leading up to Week 14 of the NFL season, as compiled by The Sporting News:

* Dallas Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett will not be available Sunday against the San Diego Chargers because of some concussion-related symptoms. Although he didn’t experience any problems during last weekend’s loss to the New York Giants, he hasn’t practiced all week due to complaints of headaches and fogginess.

* Green Bay’s top four defensive linemen are on the injury report, although Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is hoping that the team will have most, if not all, of the players available for Sunday’s tilt against the Chicago Bears. Defensive end Cullen Jenkins (hamstring) and rookie nose tackle/defensive end B.J. Raji (ankle) are probable while DE Johnny Jolly (knee) is questionable. The Packers’ biggest concern is with NT Ryan Pickett (hamstring), who didn’t practice this week and is listed as doubtful.

* The Washington Redskins will be without the services of defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth with a sprained left ankle while cornerback DeAngelo Hall will also miss Sunday’s game agaisnt the Oakland Raiders with a sprained right knee.

* Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Jeremy Trueblood was fined $25,000 by the league for unnecessary roughness; he leveled Carolina Panthers CB Chris Gamble, long after a play was over during the Bucs’ 16-6 loss last Sunday. This was Trueblood’s fourth infraction this season.

* Chicago Bears offensive coordinator is all of a sudden a fan of Green Bay Packers CB Charles Woodson, saying that he should get consideration for league MVP, adding:

“He’s unbelievable. I don’t remember the last time, if ever, that I’ve seen someone have the year that he’s having. He’s all over the field. He’s playing corner, he’s playing nickel, he’s playing strong safety. He’s going head to head on tight ends. He’s making tackles, he’s causing fumbles, he’s intercepting balls. He is all over the place, and it’s unbelievable to watch.”

* Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is likely a game-time decision, according to head coach Mike Smith; running back Michael Turner is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Favre Meets the Packers

Posted on 17 November 2009 by Sebastian

Brett Favre just got more interesting that ever. The first ever quarterback to be able to beat all of thirty two National Football League teams, he is currently with Minnesota Vikings, and the last, and definitely high in his list of teams to beat, the Green Bay Packers, which they have beaten, so Favre can now definitely say that he is the only NFL quarterback to have beaten all of the NFL teams in the league.

During the game with the Packers, Favre felt awkward at times. His first scoring toss was an uncomfortable body bump with Ryan Longwell, who was also a Packer player in the past.
When the Packers, who were on a two on two score, stuffed Peterson with a newly planned defense technique, they were able to hold him down to twelve yards in the second half of the game.

Even rookie player, Clay Matthews joined in the tackle and was able to rip the ball out, and tying the score at fourteen points.

Favre felt that that type of performance could have still been improved, but then again, the outcome was still good.

Favre justified comments made about his decision to retire, and saying that the reason he did not push for his retiring is for him to be able to seek revenge over his team, the Packers.

When asked about the game, Favre said that he felt the same intense feelings he had when he played the night after his father died. It was an strong, intense and emotional game then, and he felt the same way now.  After his father died in two thousand three, Favre played on a Monday night against Oakland, and he performed one of his best games ever. He was able to throw for three hundred and ninety nine yards, and scored four touchdowns. Coffee Leads 49ers in Gore’s absence

Posted on 19 October 2009 by Sebastian

San Francisco 49ers is entrusting their offensive streak to rookie running back, Glen Coffee, in their upcoming games while Gore is still recovering from an injury he had during their play with Minnesota.
Due to the injury that the team’s regular starter, Frank Gore, is suffering, the 49ers stick their hopes on their new running back for the next few weeks. While Gore will be spending some time to recover from his right ankle injury, Coffee will take his position and will control the offensive attacks of San Francisco.
According to Coach Mike Singletary, they will not be changing any of their techniques despite the absence of Gore. They trust Coffee’s ability and that he can perform the 49ers’ tricks without any problems.  Though Singletary admitted that the team will not be having one of the league’s best backs in their upcoming games, he is still confident that Coffee can take on the role.
The 49ers already looked for someone to be the back-up of Gore since 2006 when he became a full-time starter of the team. Fortunately, Coffee took the position just this year and is the only one that takes on the ball so far.
Coffee admittedly says that he is sorry for what happened to Gore and that he has a big shoe to fill. But because of these, he is more challenged to give his best.
As for the preseason record, Coffee displayed superb performance fit for the position he will be playing for the NFL season. He is already the leading rusher as he gets a record of 42 carries in 249 yards.
The team is planning to put up three active running backs in their next games. The players that will join Coffee will be the reserve halfback, Michael Robinson, and starting fullback, Moran Norris.
Norris mentioned that he really thinks Coffee can do the job well because of the rookie’s physical strength. He also added that 49ers’ fans can still expect the same game that they always do with the new running back around.
Coffee will remain the focus of San Francisco’s offense until Gore fully recovers from the injury.

Panthers: Season isn’t over with 0-3

Posted on 14 October 2009 by Sebastian

Despite being one of the seven teams that are still winless in the NFL this year, Carolina Panthers continue to insist that the game is not yet over for them. Carolina won the NFC South games last season but continues to be off the record early this time. They also said that they are not even sick despite the call for them to take a flue vaccine.
After the game with Dallas on Monday, the team continues to struggle despite the 21-7 score in favor of Dallas. Coach John Fox of Panthers also said that John Dellhomme will remain as the quarterback of the team even with their three successive losses. He also mentioned that the team’s problem is not at all physical but more on the mental aspect.
John Dellhomme stated that the team is still intact and that Fox is still in control of it. He also added that despite the scrutiny the team is encountering, Fox remains the head of the team and that their coach is doing everything to regroup and refocus the Panthers.
When asked what he said to his team to boost their confidence after losing to Dallas, Fox said that he just have to reiterate that they need to define who they are and that they have to do a better job including coaching matters.
He also added that the team only had missed some techniques for the last games that they have. When they reviewed their plays, they found out that execution was just the lacking ingredient in their plays. He also said that those things can still be corrected.
Dellhomme, on the other hand, answered the question about what he thinks about the 0-3 condition of the team by saying that he did not perform his job well enough. He just ended his statement by stating that they need to win to stop people from scrutinizing them.
Damione Lewis, Panthers’ defensive tackle, said that the team is making a way out of the mental errors that they had. They are doing their best and are up for a better game in their following plays.
