DraftWatch: McCoy’s bench press

Posted on 02 March 2010 by Kevin Seifert

As we continue to evaluate which elite defensive tackle Detroit would be better off drafting next month, we should at least consider this eye-opening result from Monday's workout at the scouting combine.

Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy managed 23 repetitions in the bench press, a good result if he were a running back. As an interior linemen, it's on the low end and provides at least a hint that he needs to work on upper-body strength.

In this Insider-only post, ESPN's Todd McShay terms the figure "a little disappointing." McShay, however, did write that McCoy showed "outstanding quickness" in both his feet and hands during position-specific drills.

Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, on the other hand, put up 32 reps.

If you're looking for a tale of the tape between the two, here's what I can provide:

Ndamukong Suh
Height: 6-4
Weight: 307 pounds
40 time: 4.98 seconds

Gerald McCoy
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 295 pounds
40 time: 4.96
